Alatau City Bank representatives delivered a guest lecture on financial literacy 16 September • 2:00 p.m. • School of Business and Management

On 16 September at 2:00 p.m., the School of Business and Management hosted a guest lecture by representatives of Alatau City Bank entitled “Financial Literacy and Preventing Money Mule Activity: How to Protect Yourself from Fraudulent Schemes.”

The guest speakers were:

•  Aizada Kairatkyzy, Retail Business Director;

•  Zhansaya Kulbek, Head of the Central Branch;

•  Akmaral Gulmetova, Chief Manager;

•  Asem Sembekova, Chief Manager.

The bank’s representatives introduced students to the key principles of personal financial management, the safe use of bank cards and mobile applications, and common forms of financial fraud.

Particular attention was given to money mule activity, in which individuals are recruited to receive, transfer, or withdraw funds obtained illegally. The speakers explained how to identify suspicious offers of quick income and outlined the risks of giving third parties access to a bank card, account details, verification codes, or mobile banking services.

Using practical examples, participants examined typical fraud schemes and received guidance on protecting personal data and funds. The speakers stressed that an offer to use a personal bank account to receive or transfer someone else’s money may be an attempt to involve the account holder in unlawful activity.

At the end of the session, students asked the experts questions and discussed the principles of safe financial behaviour.
